Around 2 hours after they fell asleep, Donna, Johnny and Denise all called the rooms to wake everyone up. Everyone got dressed into comfy clothes and headed over to the area once again.
When in they were all in the rehearsal room, Nick came up with a suddenly great idea.
"What do you guys say we dedicate this concert to Andrea."
"That’s really sweet Nick. But, I just don’t think that I could. Ya know, I mean, I loved her. I mean, I still do, except…" A.J cut himself off when tears began to flow down his face, yet again.
"I’ll do it for ya man, don’t worry." Brian assured A.J.
"Thanks bro," A.J replied while hugging Brian friendly.
"Howie, Kevin…your girlfriends are on in 5. Go wish them luck," Donna instructed. Howie and Kevin got up and left the room to go see Lynn and Lara. They walked to the backstage area and saw Lynn and Lara talking behind the trap doors.
"Hey girls," smiled Howie, walking behind Lynn and wrapping his arms around her waist.
"Hey Baby," smiled Lynn kissing him softly.
"Nervous hun?" Kevin asked, hugging Lara tightly.
"Yeah a bit," Lara replied.
Just then Brian walked over and said it was time to go on stage and while the girls waited on the trap doors he was going to dedicate the show to Andrea. The girls nodded and took their places. The house lights went on and Brian walked out into the middle of the stage. People screamed and then quieted when they saw he had something to say.
"Today tragedy hit our group. One of my best friends and AJ’s long time girlfriend, Andrea, was murdered today. This is very upsetting to all of our members and extremely devastating for AJ because she was the woman he planned to marry. We have decided that in her honor this show would be for her. So, Andrea, I know you’re listening in heaven, this one’s for you," cheers filled the arena as Brian left the stage and almost the entire place that was supposed to be dark, was lit by millions of lighters lit in Andrea’s memory.
The stage lights flashed on and off and suddenly Lara and Lynn jumped on stage and started their performance. They performed 4 out of 5 of their songs. In the middle of the 5th one, "Freak", Lynn went out into the audience. She was singing in front of a few fans. One of the people in front of her was dressed in all black. She had short black hair and coal black eyes. She had quite a resemblance to AJ’s ex-girlfriend, Amanda.
"The bitch that took him from me is dead, now you all must pay," she said while pulling out a gun.
"Holy shit!" Lynn screamed into her mic. The whole arena shut up and knew something was wrong. Lara looked over to where Lynn was singing. Then, a gunshot was heard around the arena. Lynn was shot in the stomach. She fell backwards onto the stage and Howie rushed out to get her.
Once again, the murderer escaped. No one could catch her.
"Are you okay?" Howie asked then yelled at himself. "Of course you’re not okay! You just got shot!!!!"
Lara rushed over to Lynn.
"Oh God! I’ll call an ambulance." She said quickly then ran offstage.
The fans were beginning to panic and drift out of the arena. Within 20 minutes, the whole arena was cleared and the police began to search for clues.
Lynn was taken to the hospital. Lara had to go to the police station to tell her account of what happened. Howie and the 4 other Backstreet Boys went to the hospital with Lynn. On the way over there, in the bus, Howie had a nervous breakdown and so did Kevin.
"I told her to be careful! I told her she would be next! I knew it and she didn’t listen to me! Oh God, let her live!" sobbed Howie.
"Howie, it’s okay. Everything will be okay. I promise," Brian reassured.
"No, everything won’t be okay. If Lynn got hurt, Lara is next. I know it!" cried Kevin. If Kevin was falling apart, there was no hope for Howie or A.J.
"Cheer up for about 3 hours, we’re at the hospital. Lynn needs us to be happy and positive. Don’t look like you just left ‘Titanic’!" advised Nick.
"Nick’s right. Unbelievable, huh?" joked Brian. Kevin, A.J, and Howie all smiled. Brian laughed in relief.
They all sat in the waiting room all praying and hoping for the best. Brian and Nick tried to comfort Howie, though their efforts weren’t making much progress. About fifteen minutes later Lara walked in and Kevin jumped up and ran to her side.
"Hey Kev, are you okay?" she asked, noticing how he was clinging to her arm.
"Uh…yeah I am," Kevin lied, to hide his fears.
"I know you’re lying to me."
"You do?"
"I’m not that stupid Richardson."
"Oh…"
"Shut up and tell me you bastard."
"I’m sorry. I’m just scared. I mean they got Andrea and Lynn, you’re the only girl left."
"Yeah, I know."
"Well, don’t you think that…"
"That some nut is gonna come and kill me, yeah I do, but if it’s gonna happen why fight it?"
"Are you crazy?! You’re giving up already?!"
"I don’t know damnit! For God’s sake Kevin, look at the situation. One of my best friends was murdered right in front of me and now I don’t know if my other one is going to live. Do you think I want to continue like this? Do you?"
"I….I don’t know. I just don’t. I can’t say anything about that. I just….I can’t live without you. I need you," he whispered.
Lara looked at him and her upset expression changed to one of a softer mood. She hugged him and said, "I won’t leave you. I promise."
He looked at her and nodded, not trusting his voice.
"Come on, lets go help Howie out. He loves Lynn a lot and he needs us," Lara instructed softly.
"Okay…"
They walked over to Howie, who was alone in the corner, sobbing into his hands. Lara stood beside him for about a minute, just to see what he was going to do. He continued to cry. Kevin walked over to A.J, leaving Lara with Howie.
"D, you doing okay?" asked Lara while rubbing Howie’s hunched over back.
"No," he sobbed into his arms.
"It’s okay Howie. She’ll make it. You know how strong Lynn is. She’ll fight this till the end. You and I both know it," Lara assured Howie.
Howie picked up his head at looked up at Lara. His face was bright red and tear stained. Lara grabbed a tissue from the table behind her and handed it to Howie.
"She’d better make it. If she does, I’ve got a huge surprise for her. I never want her to leave me again."
"She’ll make it…" Lara said again. He nodded, letting out a long sigh of anxiety.
Suddenly the doctor walked out into the room.
"We’ve located the bullet, it’s extremely close to her spine. There’s a large chance of paralyzation. We’re doing the best we can," the doctor said before walking out.
"At least she’ll live," A.J said bitterly. Howie ignored his comment, knowing that A.J was still hurting. Lara hugged Howie then rushed after the doctor.
"Um, sir, can her boyfriend see her, he kind of has something to tell her. I mean did you get the bullet out? Is she seeable?" asked Lara.
"Yeah, sure. Go get him," instructed the doctor. Lara left to retrieve Howie. Howie willingly got up form the waiting room and followed Lara to where she had left the doctor standing.
"This way," he told them while pointing down the left hall, "Room 305."
"Thank you," Lara replied before rushing to her friend’s room. When they got to the door of Lynn’s room, Howie went to knock then hesitated.
"Come with me."
Lara shook her head. "No, you have to do this on your own."
Howie knocked and then entered the room.
