Prologue…* August 29, 1973 *
*12:42 AM*
Mr. Dorough crept through the dark streets of Orlando, Florida. In his arms was
a sleeping baby girl, wrapped in a blanket and in a wicker basket. He placed the
little girl on the steps of a quaint house. Then he attached a note to her frail
body…
"I’m sorry to burden you like this, but please take care of our baby
girl. We’ll contact you someday. She was born on August 22, 1973. Just so you
don’t mess up her age and stuff. Thank you."
He then rushed away, leaving the baby alone in the unlit night.
*6:37 AM*
Mrs. Rose Avia opened her front door to retrieve the morning paper. To her
surprise, in place of the paper was a sleeping baby girl. Rose gasped and picked
up the baby. She hurried inside and closed the front door.
"Marshal, could you come here for a moment?" Rose whispered, being
careful not to wake the baby. Rose’s spouse, Marshal Avia, walked into the
room.
"What the heck?" he whispered. A look of confusion crossed his face.
"I just found her outside. She’s apparently abandoned. What do we
do?" Rose asked.
"Well, we can’t have children. And I know you want one. Do you want to
take her to social services and adopt her?" Marshal offered.
"Thank you Marshal. Thank you," Rose whispered and kissed her husband
on the cheek.
*12:18 PM*
"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Avia. You now have a baby girl. We just need
you to pick a name and sign these papers and she’s all yours," Mrs.
Dunway, a social worker, said happily.
"Rose, you can name her. You found her," Marshal offered. Rose nodded.
"Josephine Danielle Avia," Rose decided. Marshal smiled and then
signed the papers. They then went home with their new baby girl.
